Abstract

Book review: Istoriia tuvinskoi literatury [A history of Tuvan literature]. Novosibirsk, Nauka Publ. Vol. I. Istoki. Literatura Tuvinskoi Narodnoi Respubliki (1921–1944). [Origins of Tuvan literature. Literature of People’s Republic of Tannu Tuva, 1921-1944]. Novosibirsk, Nauka Publ., 2013. 266 p.

This multi-volume study will provide a new take on many events in the history of Tuvan literature. Volume 1 examines the origins of literature in Tuvan language and the conditions of its rise. It widens the field of sources by covering the Old Turkic texts, Tuvan manuscripts in Old Mongolian, etc. Authors provide a fascinating analysis of increasingly sophisticated imagery in Tuvan literature and of the expansion of its contacts with other national literatures in Siberia, as well as with Russian and world literatures.
