Policy on the use of AI
Effective date: 02.02.2026
Policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by authors of the journal
General principles
We welcome the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scholarly research and in the preparation of manuscripts for academic periodicals, including peer‑reviewed journals. AI can be a powerful tool for improving the quality and efficiency of your work. We seek to uphold scholarly integrity and encourage authors, reviewers, and editors to use AI as an assistant rather than as a substitute for critical thinking and ethical standards. This policy applies exclusively to the process of text drafting and does not cover the use of AI for data analysis or the derivation of scientific conclusions within the research process.
Use of AI by authors
Authors may use generative AI and AI‑based tools solely to improve the readability and language quality of the manuscript, as well as its illustrative design, and only under the condition that the AI model’s license permits such use. These technologies must be applied under human supervision, and the outputs must be carefully verified and edited by the authors.
Prohibited practices: passive or covert generation of scholarly content; fabrication and falsification of data by means of AI; breaches of confidentiality and personal data security (uploading personally identifiable data or other confidential data of individuals who served as sources of information or materials to cloud‑based or third‑party AI services); infringement of copyright and plagiarism using AI; use of AI for the automatic compilation of texts, graphs, or images protected by copyright without the necessary rights or citations.
Consequences of non‑compliance with the policy: if, at the stages of formal textual checks, expert evaluation, or peer review, doubts arise that the author has improperly used AI tools without disclosing this, the author will receive a letter from the editorial office setting out the situation, including the indications that led to the suspicion of AI use. The author is then given an opportunity to provide an explanation (including any documentary evidence of independent data collection, text preparation, calculations, etc.) so that the editorial office can be convinced that its suspicions are unfounded. Until this is clarified, both the consideration of the article in question and the acceptance of new submissions from this author and each of the co‑authors are suspended.
Policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by reviewers of the journal
General principles
Peer review must remain professional, independent, and grounded in human expert knowledge. AI tools may be used only as auxiliary means; all final judgments and recommendations must be made by a human reviewer. The reviewer bears responsibility for the completeness, accuracy, and ethical adequacy of the review.
Prohibited practices: no content of the manuscript (texts, data, figures, tables, unsolicited supplementary materials) may be entered into publicly accessible or cloud‑based AI services without explicit permission from the editorial office and without compliance with confidentiality requirements; use of AI for automatic generation of full‑fledged reviews, assessments of scholarly value, or recommendations without substantial and critical verification by the human reviewer; disclosure of confidential, unpublished information about the manuscript to third parties via AI services.
Consequences of non‑compliance with the policy: violations (for example, disclosure of manuscript content via an unvetted AI service; presenting AI‑generated text as one’s own review) are considered serious breaches of confidentiality and may entail disciplinary measures by the editorial office, including revocation of the reviewer’s right to review and notification of the relevant institutions in the event of serious violations.
Policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by editors of the journal
General principles
Editors recognize the potential of AI to increase the efficiency of editorial workflows, but they must uphold the principles of academic integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment. This policy applies to all editors of the journal who are part of the technical team, as well as invited guest editors (for special issues). Editors bear full responsibility for all editorial decisions, whether AI was used in their preparation. AI is a support tool and not a substitute for human judgment.
Prohibited practices: making editorial decisions with the help of AI; generation of scholarly content; breaches of confidentiality; evaluation of reviews using AI; use of AI for the automatic selection or exclusion of potential reviewers without human oversight and assessment of conflicts of interest.
Consequences of non‑compliance with the policy: violations of this policy may result in disciplinary measures, including but not limited to revocation of editorial authority and termination of collaboration with the journal. In cases of serious violations affecting scholarly integrity or confidentiality, additional actions may be undertaken.
Updates to the AI use policy
This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to keep pace with rapidly developing AI technologies and best practices in scholarly publishing.
