The objective of the research is to determine the main aspects of pursuance and issues of studying the animal naming system (animal lexis) in riddles of the Tuvan people in linguistic and linguoculturological terms. The factual basis of the study was editions of Tuvan riddles, as well as examples of riddles taken from collections and research works on Tuvan folklore.
The totality of lexical units in riddles is a subsystem of the Tuvan language and folklore that is specific in the linguistic and linguocultural aspects. Faunal lexical units comprise one of the universal thematic groups in the vocabulary of the language. Names of animals occupy a central position in it. In this regard, the most relevant (and the most difficult) is a comprehensive study of the system of names of objects of the animal world in riddles, which represents both the universal features of faunal vocabulary and the distinctness of the sphere of animalistic concepts in the ethno-linguistic worldview of the Tuvans.
The article deals with two main aspects of functioning of animal lexemes as components of lexical structure of paroemias as well as elements of the figurative and semantic space of Tuvan riddles. The authors describe the naming of animals in the linguistic aspect (place and volume of zoological components in the composition of riddles, lexical and semantic connections and groups of animal components of riddles, features of reflecting the variability and synonymy of such components in riddles) and in linguoculturological terms (zoo-components that represent images of the animal world, indicate traditional culture and determine the people’s way of thinking in Tuvan riddles).
