Abstract

The article examines the lexical category denoting the names of body parts of domestic animals in the Khalkha-Mongolian, Buryat, and Kalmyk languages from a comparative-historical perspective, incorporating Turkic linguistic material. The novelty of the study lies in the introduction of field data collected during an expedition to the Okinsky District of the Republic of Buryatia in the summer of 2022.

The analysis of the collected material allowed for the division of the section “Animal Body Parts” into two lexical-semantic groups: terms for external organs and terms for internal organs of animals. The authors conclude that all the key terms in this category were borrowed from Turkic languages. This is supported by common origins and the ancient material and economic culture shared by the Turkic-Mongolic ethnic groups. Nevertheless, some terms of Mongolic origin are also present, appearing in various phonetic variants.
