The fate of Mikhail Grigorievich Torosov through the prism of archival documents (a case study of records from archives in Khakassia and Tuva)

This article presents an analysis of documents from the National Archives of the Republic of Tuva and the National Archives of the Republic of Khakassia that reflect activities of the outstanding political figure of Khakassia Mikhail Grigorievich Torosov (1900–1938). For a long time his name was concealed in the Soviet historiographical tradition.
Since he was purged, most of the documents related to him were destroyed or classified. That is why a small amount of materials about M. G. Torosov has been preserved in the fonds of the National Archives of the Republic of Khakassia: his personal file, autobiography, and questionnaire. Nevertheless, they indicate his contribution to the socialist transformations in the Khakass Autonomous Oblast and provide insight into the versatility of his personality, his relevance for the authorities in different areas of Soviet construction.
In order to trace his entire life trajectory, it is especially pertinent to refer to the fonds of the National Archives of the Republic of Tuva. M. G. Torosov’s arrival at the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Tuvan Arat Republic in 1936 played a fatal role in his life.
