‘Maniyin tayilbuur orošibо’: an Oirat literary collection from the National Museum of Tuva

The article introduces into scientific discourse texts of two manuscript poetic compositions included in the 18th-century Oirat Clear Script analects titled ‘Maniyin tayilbuur orošibо’ and contained in the Aldan Maadyr National Museum of the Tyva Republic.
The investigated manuscript collection can be classified as popular literature of hortatory explanations (Oir. тайилбур) and didactic precepts (Oir. сургал) once widespread in Buddhist literatures of Mongolic peoples, including that of the Oirats. Since the bulk of the Museum’s manuscript collection was compiled from texts of Buddhist monasteries that had been located in the territory of Tuva, it is suggested that those texts were required for the promotion of Buddhist philosophical doctrines among the Tuvans rather than to be used in religious ceremonies and rituals.
The paper transliterates and translates the texts into modern Kalmyk and Russian; analyzes every composition included in the manuscript analects; reveals peculiar features of the considered analects, such as the thematic principle of compilation, aphoristic character of the narrative, simplicity in explanations of complicated philosophical terms.
