Abstract

The article examines the contribution of the Department of audiovisual and information technologies (DAIT), Institute for the Development of Ethnic School at the Ministry of Education and Research, Republic of Tuva, to the creation of electronic versions of school textbooks, study guides, photo, audio and video projects, and other types of educational resources.

The DAIT was set up in 2010 with the aim to provide schools in the educational system of Tuva with electronic versions of textbooks, study guides, research texts and children’s literature in both Russian and Tuvan languages, as well as of translations of literary texts from Tuvan, Russian and foreign languages in full compliance with the demands of the Federal State Educational Standard in its ethnocultural component.

During the six years of its work, the DAIT recorded and edited audio and video resources, designed tables, graphs, diagrams, etc. The Department has published a number of electronic study guides, 12 electronic textbooks on Tuvan language and literature (the full list of titles can be found at http://irnsh.ru/qwe/, section ‘Electronic textbooks’)

At the moment, the DAIT is working on the electronic versions of textbooks on Tuvan literature and language authored by A.A. Aldyn-Ool, K.B. Mart-Ool, N.Ch. Damba, Sh.Ch. Sat, N.M. Ondar, I.Ch. Ergil-Ool, L.S. Kara-Ool, M.V. Bavuu-Syuryun, B.K. Dorzhu, A.K. Oidan-Ool, A.M. Belek-Bair and other authors. Other electronic resources in the works are devoted to culture, history, socioeconomic life and natural resources of Tuva. In 2016, the DAIT released a photo film titled ‘Alaga oyunu’ (The Spawning Season of the Perch) by G.D. Sundui and E.S. Kuular. In the near future, the Department is planning to release 45 electronic textbooks for regional use, including those on Russian language, and translated version of mathematics and ‘the world around us’ sometime published by the Institute

Electronic textbooks are created on a phased basis, with only the first stage completed so far. In order to convert a textbook from its electronic version to a separate medium, a large degree of cooperation is expected from their authors, illustrators, music makers and other creative groups to add more materials which would expand and enrich the textbook’s content.
