The medieval Tumats played a very important role in the ethnogenesis of the peoples of Southern Siberia. There is an extensive literature about the Tumats in the Buryat historiography that considers them ancestors of the Khori-Buryat clans. There is data about the Tumats in the Sakha folklore. According to the archive data of the 17th century, it is the name of the "on-foot” Sakha inhabitants of Viluy. The Ust-Talkian archeological culture of Southern Transangara of the 12th – 14th centuries is connected with the Tumats.References
