Abstract

The article analyzes the history of the development of academic geological research in Tuva. The study is based on an analysis of scientific publications and research conducted by employees of the Tuvinian Institute for Exploration of Natural Resources of Natural Resources of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as on the personal recollections of geologist-scientists.

The history of scientific organizations in Tuva engaged in academic geological research since 1975 is examined. The study identifies distinct periods in this process, provides a characterization of each period, lists subdivisions and names of scientists, and assesses their contributions. It is noted that, at present, the only institution conducting comprehensive fundamental geological and metallogenic research on the geological study of Tuva’s subsurface is the Tuvinian Institute for Exploration of Natural Resources of Natural Resources of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute houses the Laboratory of Geodynamics, Magmatism, and Ore Formation. Alongside conducting fundamental Earth science research, the laboratory’s staff carries out a significant volume of regionally oriented geological-metallogenic and geoecological studies.
