The article analyzes one of the personal fonds at the National Archives of the Republic of Tuva (NA RT). It deals with Anna (Taki-Surun) Nambyralovna Torzhu (1911–2006), the first professional paramedic in Tuva, and her family members. The fonds was created in 2005. This is one of the largest private fonds of the Archive (f. Р-788). It has more than 172 items. The authors present the composition of the fonds and documents it contains. By researching them, one can also study the history of Tuva’s healthcare. The materials allow us to examine the century-old history of Tuva’s development, the training of national personnel for the Tuvan People’s Republic (TPR) in the 1930s, the formation and development of the Tuvan healthcare system, the wave of mass political repressions that swept over not only the Soviet Union, but also the TPR.
The internal classification of the fonds is made according to the functional and chronological systematization: 1) biographical documents relating to members of the Torzhu family (largely, they are similar to other types of the documents); 2) records regarding official (professional) activity; 3) photographic documents; 4) printed publications; 5) legal and economic documents. Also, the documents are divided into five separate groups by family members: 1) Anna N. Torzhu; 2) Ivan I. Torzhu, her husband; and their daughters 3) Aya Ivanovna; 4) Taisiya Ivanovna; 5) Galina Ivanovna. There are also photos in the fonds: private photos of its creators of the fonds, group (pictures of different persons) and panoramic photos. Among the photographs, the photo album “The 110th Group of Midwives” (1935) is of particular interest. It was the first graduation of a Mongolian and Tuvan group of national minorities at Moscow Central Medical School.
A small collection of documents relating to the Torzhu family is also available in Aldan-Maadyr National Museum of the Republic of Tuva. Therefore, the authors suggest creating complete inventories of the documents, combining and storing them in a single place for the convenience of users.
